Templestowe Flat Metal Roof Replacement
Vivify Roofing recently completed a complex Templestowe metal roof replacement that required a total structural rethink to fix long-standing drainage issues and a lack of interior light.
This home required a full flat metal roof replacement because of the above issues and an incorrect roof pitch. The roof also had undersized box gutters and inadequate downpipes, which led to water ponding during heavy rainfall.
The Problem
With a pitch of less than 1°, The original roof was failing because it simply wasn’t designed for heavy rain. What Vivify Roofing had to address:
- The roof fall was less than 1°, preventing effective water runoff
- Box gutters and downpipes were undersized for the roof area
- Water pooling increased the risk of leaks and long-term damage
- Limited natural light inside the home due to deep floor plan

Our Approach
Working closely with the client’s builders, the roof structure was modified & redesigned to bring it up to modern standards and improve longevity.
- A new timber roof frame was installed and raised the framework to a 1.5° pitch, ensuring water moves immediately toward the gutters.
- Box gutters were modified to make room for much larger, high-capacity box gutters and drainage hardware.
- New rain heads and downpipes were installed to manage water flow efficiently
Materials & Upgrades
To suit the low-pitch design, improve thermal performance, and meet the client’s expectation of a high-performance “industrial” look, we utilised a high-contrast Colorbond® palette as well as the following upgrades:
- Roofing: Colorbond® Surfmist in a 0.48bmt Apdeck clip-locked profile. This is specifically designed for low-pitch performance and durability.
- Insulation: A 100mm foil-backed blanket was installed under the sheets to cut down on noise and drastically improve thermal regulation.
- Architectural: To create a sharp, modern finish, we used Colorbond® Monument for the rain heads, downpipes, and cappings, framing the light-colored roof against the sky.
Skylight Installation
To fix the limited natural light inside the home, we integrated seven Velux Skylights across the roof. Each was fitted with a custom Surfmist flashing kit to guarantee they remain 100% watertight while completely transforming the home’s interior feel with natural light.
